The terrible events in the Ukraine horrify us deeply. Out of the feeling of powerless helplessness arises anger at those responsible in Moscow, who by their aggression plunge a sovereign nation into misery and threaten world peace.
Our law firm has therefore filed a criminal complaint with the Federal Public Prosecutor General against the President and the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Mr. Putin and Mr. Lavrov, for violation of the Code of Crimes Against International Law and the Charter of the United Nations.
We are aware of the limited prospects of legal success and, above all, of the fact that, unfortunately, we will not be able to bring about the end to the ongoing aggression that we all wish for. But as lawyers we firmly believe that our world remains worth living in only if we can trust in the law and in agreements and try to enforce them with the means at our disposal.
Of course, we also try to help the Ukrainian refugees, hundreds of thousands of whom have already begun their escape to Poland. As a law firm, we have had close ties with our neighbouring country Poland for over 30 years. Through our direct contacts and relationships in various Polish cities, we are currently finding out which concrete assistance is most effective on the ground and are getting involved accordingly.
For the future, comprehensive hands-on help is also needed for refugees arriving in Germany. Here, we will also provide aid through cooperation with experienced organizations and institutions, e.g., with free legal advice.
We sincerely hope for an immediate end to the acts of aggression on sovereign Ukrainian ground and assure the Ukrainian people of our solidarity and support in these dark hours.
